Svetlana Rumak (born 1969)

Svetlana Rumak was born in Ukraine in 1969, but now lives and works in Moscow. She first fell in love with Russia when she moved to the city of Naberezhnye Chelny to study at the Kazan Art School. From then on, a Russian influence has always been present in her artwork. Svetlana makes reference to Russian icons through the enlarged almond eyes, long straight noses and flattened silhouettes she consistently gives the mysterious figures that appear in her paintings.

Despite her fascination with Russia, Svetlana never let go of her Ukrainian roots and much of the inspiration for her work comes from the landscape of her childhood. Recurring themes in Svetlana's work include the connection between generations; childhood memories, the fragility of human life and the unsettled state of humanity. In the merging of past and present, Svetlana is able to create a rich and soulful works with an often ambiguous and otherworldly quality.

Svetlana’s work is widely sort after as both and artist and an illustrator and she has exhibited widely with shows in Russia, the USA and throughout Europe.
