A refreshing see breeze blows in with this stunning new collection of paintings of the Cornish coast by leading British landscapist John Brenton. A master of capturing his native West Country in all elements, John's richly textured paintings transport us to a surf sprayed beach or wind blown clifftop in a brush stroke.
In this new body of work, I have endeavoured to capture the wild ever-changing spirit of the Cornish coast . In each painting , from the sandy dunes to the colourful clifftop flora, my primary intention was, as always, to produce works that depict my visceral connection to Cornwall’s natural beauty.
To translate the raw energy of the Atlantic and Channel peninsula into textural atmospheric canvases, I have primarily employed a bold impasto technique using palette knives and brushes, building layers of texture that mimic the rugged granite cliffs and churning surf so prevalent in Cornwall. I’ve also been exploring and capturing the dramatic interplay of light and shadow breaking through the clouds illuminating the wet sands of the shoreline.
