After early forays into the advertising industry, Roy focused on fine art from his mid 20s onward.
Beginning with bespoke animal portraits for private clients, he went on to write and illustrate a large reference book on pedigree dogs. This involved over 120 illustrations, a good grounding for the professional art world.
A developing fascination with the still life work of 18th and 19th century masters grew and within a year or so Roy was exhibiting his own still life pieces in a renowned west end London gallery.
He began his partnership with Panter and Hall several years later and went on to have several successful one man shows with them.
His style is a blend of modern realism laced with some nuances gleaned from study of the masters of yesteryear.
All are in oil on very highly prepared boards and the paintings are built up in many painstaking layers, thus facilitating the depth and vibrancy he is known for.
