Born in London, he studied at St. Martins School of Art and Chelsea School of Art. in London. He has taught drawing and painting part time at all levels up to post-graduate including working as a life drawing tutor at The Royal Academy Schools. Francis exhibits regularly at the Royal Academy, the New English Art Club where he is a member and the Royal Watercolour Society where he served as President from 2000-03. He was awarded the The Arts Club Prize at the 226th Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. His work is held in numerous corporate and private collections including that of HM The King. In 2013 he was invited by REME to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan as a War Artist, winning the Turner Award with a painting of the camp a year later.
