Gordon Hope Wyllie RSW (1930 - 2005) Trained at the Glasgow School of Art, Gordon was awarded both the Royal Scottish Academy Award and the most prestigious award of the School, the Newbery Medal in 1953. That year he was also awarded a scholarship to study at Hospitalfield College of Art in Arbroath; the landscapes of the surrounding Angus countryside and their fishing villages proving a revelation that became a lifelong source of inspiration. Soon afterwards Gordon became a teacher, joining that generation of his profession that became largely responsible for the renaissance in art that began to appear in Scotland from the 1960s onwards. For many years Gordon served on the examination board culminating in his appointment as Principal Examiner in Art & Design for Scotland, an influential position that he held for ten years. Throughout this time he continued to paint, exhibiting annually with the Royal Scottish Watercolour Society and towards the end of his life he was awarded their Alexander Graham Munro Prize. Panter and Hall represent the Wyllie estate and look forward to introducing the work of this truly remarkable Scottish painter to a wider public.
