Sir Robin Philipson HRA PPRSA RSW (born 1916) Leaving Edinburgh College of Art in 1940, Philipson continued to teach there from 1947, becoming a much loved and respected Head of the School of Drawing and Painting from 1960 to 1982. He served as a member of the Royal Fine Art Commission for Scotland for twenty years. His work has featured in several important and influential shows including 'Seven Scottish Painters' at the IBM gallery in New York. A seminal figure in the history of Scottish twentieth century painting, Philipson's influence was tangible on his peers and students alike, both through the dissemination of his very individual style and the encouragement he gave his many pupils at Edinburgh.
