Michael Lythgoe (born 1950)

Born in 1950, Michael Lythgoe pursued a successful early career in the Merchant Navy following an engineering apprenticeship. After emigrating to Canada to work in the ship building industry, Michael found increasingly more time to indulge his love of bird photography on the lakes of northern Ontario and spent many a happy hour observing and photographing - the loon being a particular favourite.

Returning to the UK in the late 1980s, Michael decided to realise his dream of carving. A sell out show later, followed by finding himself the winner of the 'European Decoy Carving Championships', Michael's work has evolved into a unique style of curvaceous and calming forms inspired by the sea, bird-life and the technical understanding of the engineer.
