Phil Kelly Born in Dublin (1950), Kelly has shown in numerous international group exhibitions in addition to his 20 solo shows. Most prestigious was his British Council organised one-man show at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Oaxaca (1999). He has lived and worked in Mexico since 1983, having moved out there on a whim. In 1985 he lost all his artwork and his fiancée in an earthquake that devastated his appartment. Undaunted, he has continued to paint the vibrant, fauve-like canvases which have captured the imagination of a series of dedicated collectors and supporters. Amongst his core buyers are old schoolfriend Jeremy Paxman, ex Arts Minister Alan Howarth and chef Rick Stein, for whose Seafood Restaurant in Padstow Kelly created a mural. He has also worked with and painted a portrait of poet Seamus Heaney, completing a set of illustrations for a book by Heaney¹s wife Marie. View all works by Phil Kelly on the P&H website |
