Sir William Oliphant Hutchinson HRA PRSA RP  (1889-1970)

Born in Kircaldy, he studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1909 to 1912 and in Paris.  He exhibited widely in Scotland and London, serving as treasurer and then President of the RSA.  From 1933 to 1943 he was Director of Glasgow School of Art and from 1941 to 1943 he was President of Glasgow Art Club.  He is well known for his portrait painting and is represented in the National Portrait Gallery, London.  He painted HM The Queen in 1955.
