Peter Howson at The Panter and Hall Fine Art Gallery

'Rogue Male I'

Oil on canvas, 36" x 48"

Peter Howson (born 1958)

Peter attended Glasgow School of Art in the late 1970s, and returned to teach there in 1985 before his burgeoning international celebrity led him to turn to painting full time.  His aggressive, direct images of working class life drew the attention of the Imperial War Museum and he was famously appointed official artist to the war in Bosnia.  The disturbing images with which he returned were responsible as much as any photographic reportage for bringing the horrors of that war to a wider international audience.
