Sir Francis Grant PRA RSA (1803-1878) A Perthshire artist by birth, Grant began as a sporting artist under the patronage of the Duke of Wellington until a number of likenesses of Queen Victoria brought him a national reputation as portraitist. His many notable sitters included Melbourne, Palmerston, Macauley and Landseer. He served as president of the Royal Academy from 1866 until his death.
