Without doubt the best known abstract painter in the British popular psyche, Frost has a particular place in the public affection. The grand old man of the abstraction movement that came to fruition in the mid 1960s he has had a significant influence on the last thirty years of British painting. He was an inspirational teacher while Professor of Painting at Reading and since the 1940s has been closely associated with the St. Ives School. A British artist with a truly international reputation, the Arts Council honoured him with a retrospective in 1976.
