William Crosbie RSA RGI (1915-1999)

Born and brought up in China of Scottish stock Crosbie studied at the Glasgow School of Art form 1932 to 1935.  Winning the Haldane Scholarship he travelled to Paris where he entered the studio of Fernand Leger and took drawing lessons from Maillol.  His first one man show was held in Glasgow in 1939.  After War service he began painting murals (Festival of Britain commission in 1951), illustrated books and designed the sets for a ballet.  He has had several retrospectives in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
