Mark Demsteader 2011 - 'Emma'

15th Jun - 1st Jul 2011

This Manchester based artist is without doubt amongst the most popular figurative painters working in Britain today. His powerful depictions of the female form in clean assured lines of charcoal and gouache have sparked a renaissance of interest in traditional life drawing throughout the collecting fraternity. We are now collaborating with the leading Japanese commercial art dealer, Rocky Degawa to bring Mark's work to the Far East, his first solo exhibition opens in Tokyo in 2010.

"There is a gallery in Oxford that I used to look in after school which exhibited Mark's work. His paintings were always my favourite. For my 21st birthday I decided to contact Mark to buy some of his work. When he asked if he could paint a series of paintings of me, I was a bit nervous about the idea at first but obviously incredibly flattered - it was an opportunity I couldn't turn down.

I am really excited that Mark said he would support CAMFED International with this exhibition, too. They are a great charity doing an amazing job educating girls in Africa.

I am Mark's biggest fan and I am hugely grateful."
